Why do people become interims?

Interim managers have at some point in their career decided that they want to work differently. Usually, this is driven by a desire to bring greater variety into their working lives. They also typically want to have a different work regime, where they can intersperse assignments with other uses of their time.

Most interim managers go down this road after they have gained at least 10-15 years senior management experience. They come from all types of organisation, in both the private and public sectors.
